Toastmasters International, the public speaking and leadership training organisation that we are a part of, has what’s known as the Distinguished Club Program. Its purpose is to encourage and recognise which Toastmasters clubs across the world are run exceptionally well. And there are over 16,000 of them!
What does the award signify?
A club must show it’s run well in several key areas: how many members it helps to complete their educational awards; how effective it is in maintaining strong club numbers; how efficiently it’s run; and whether the committee undertakes the mandatory level of training so they can deliver a high quality club experience.
How successful has Spa Speakers been in earning the award?
Spa Speakers has won the President’s Distinguished Club – the highest level of recognition available – 12 years out of the 14 we have been running, which includes the last 3 years. Woohoo!
2017 – 2018
2016 – 2017
2015 – 2016
2012 – 2013
2011 – 2012
2010 – 2011
2009 – 2010
2008 – 2009
2007 – 2008
2006 – 2007
2005 – 2006
2004 – 2005
The proof? If you come to our club, you’ll see our banner beautifully decorated with the rather fetching recognition ribbons we are given by Toastmasters to signify our success. Very nice!
What about those years we didn’t?
Perhaps you are asking: what happened in 2013 – 2014 and 2014 – 2015. You didn’t get it then! Sure, but we still did pretty good: we won the Select Distinguished Club Award, the next highest award, in 2013 – 2014, and the Distinguished Club Award in 2014 – 2015. All in all, a very strong track record!
The secret to our success?
Enthusiasm and love for the club is the most important ingredient. We are immensely proud of: the members we have; the fun, friendly and supportive environment that’s nurtured here; and the strong commitment each and every member has in learning, growing and helping their fellow members become better leaders and public speakers.
We are very proud of the club, and fellow Spa Speakers, you should be too!
