Speech contests are a Toastmasters tradition. Each year thousands of Toastmasters compete in the Evaluation and International speech contests. Competition begins with club contests and winners continue competing through the area, division and district levels then finally the international stage. Competitions teach us to be more creative and well...make life more fun!

We had our first ever Official Club Open Evening, another success for Spa Speakers! As part of Division-wide Open-fortnight campaign designed to publicize Toastmasters to our wider communities across the UK. Our Area Governor John Cox joined us for this meeting and shared some valuable thoughts with us on benefits of we gain as individuals and also how we can avoid becoming “the best kept secret”.

September kicked-off our with our first meeting on the 12th August which saw Carla Alves da Silva and Chris Marshall take the crown in the club humorous and table topic contests respectively. Both then went on represent Spa Speakers at the Area contest in Birmingham on the 23rd August in which the best-of-the-best in our area competed. Carla was placed 3rd in the humorous speech contest and Chris placed 2nd in the table topics(impromptu speeches) contest. Well done to them both, their efforts are sure to have inspired more people to take up the challenge in future contests.
